Scalloped Apples Dessert in the Slow Cooker

After the weirdness of last week's carrot pudding, I figured you all need a REAL dessert recipe.

This is pretty much apple pie without the crust.

You're welcome.

The Ingredients.

serves 8

4 Granny Smith apples
4 Golden Delicious apples
1/2 cup sugar (feel free to cut back)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 cup butter, sliced
vanilla ice cream and/or sweetened whipped cream (optional, for serving)

The Directions.

Use a 4-quart slow cooker. If you've only got a 6-quart, that's okay, just check on your apples after 3-4 hours on low.

Peel, core, and slice the apples.

Curse yourself that you've never taken the plunge to purchase one of those cool apple gadget things...

Plop the apples into your slow cooker and toss the slices with sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and butter slices.

Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until apples have reached desired tenderness.

If you cook too long, the apples will turn into applesauce--- not a bad thing, but something to note!

Easy dessert recipe, even on a busy weeknight. Apples, sugar, cinnamon, cloves -- serve over ice cream or with whipped cream, or BOTH! from ayearofslowcooking.com

The Verdict.

If you don't like this, then I don't think we can be friends.

  2. This is just about the recipe I use for applesauce. I don't use sugar, instead I use a couple sweeter apples mixed in with the tart ones. And just cook it down more. YUM! I love warm apples!

I made something similar this morning. Cut up the apples and added one can of jellied cranberry sauce. Cook until it's mush and you have a cran/applesauce. It is very good. I really enjoy your blog! Thanks for your great ideas.

  15. I'm wondering how in the world you knew I was thinking "Thank You!"? :) Also wondering, why didn't I think to make my favorite apple pie (sour cream apple pie) without a crust? I haven't had it since going GF. Thanks!

  28. Hey Steph, could you make this without the butter (or less butter) or sub something in it's place? My husband has ibs and a lot of food quirks and can't handle butter well. He loves the cracker barrel apples so I know he would love this. Thanks!

  29. Hi Sweetann, I think it would be great even without any butter. I might suggest spraying the crock though -- the apple gets awfully sticky and it might want some grease to clean nicely off the sides. :-)
