A Year of Slow Cooking

Reader Favorites

I wanted to put together a favorites page for a while, but couldn't figure out how to properly gauge what were "true" reader favorites. Until I remembered Facebook.

The following recipes have the most "likes"--- which has got to mean something, right?

over 1k likes

over 3k likes

over 5k likes

When I started this site, I never thought I'd come up with new or innovative uses for the slow cooker. I figured people might tune in to see if I actually kept my resolution, but I had no idea that I'd learn new uses for the cooker or come up with recipes. It has really been a complete trip--- and I'm truly thankful.

Thank you so much.

other stuff I did this week:
2008 Flashback, the complete year of crockpotting, in order
interview with Amy Green: Simply Sugar and GlutenFree
Vegetarian Tortilla Soup

A little story about peperoncini beef... my family and I went over to a friend's beach house they were renting about 15 years ago and they served us peperoncini beef. It was so easy and delicious that we've been making ever since. And now I'm out of the house and making it for my friends. My parents visited those friends a little while ago and it came up in conversation that we make it all the time and "thanks for the recipe." The friend had no idea what she was talking about, she didn't remember it and has not made it again. All this time it's been Diane's Beef... and she didn't know it!

I had never seen that recipe for falafel and now I can't wait to try it! I love the stuff but hate that it is always fried - this sounds like a great alternative :)

and I remembered Rotisserie chicken while at gymnastics. that one has 528 likes.

I made falafel this weekend. It rocks! And we are hard core meat eaters.

Am I the only giant geek who didn't know about/can't find the facebook page?

The pepperoncini beef is on weekly rotation in our house. My husband LOVES it!

The second most requested in our house is the baked potato soup. I had never had it because all of the places that make it uses flour and I'm GF. Well, I make yours and my husband says I now know what I have been missing. :)

Hi Theresa, you aren't a geek! I was going by the little like button at the bottom of each recipe. I do have a facebook fan page that a reader set up and maintains, but I'm not personally on facebook.

have a great day, steph

Hi Stephanie! I realized I haven't "liked" anything on facebook, but I refer back to your 16 bean soup and especially your black-eyed-pea soup (the one with spicy sausage?) on a regular basis, just to name a few.

oh. and the rotisserie chicken too- i do mine with baked potatoes underneath so the juices can drain and the top will come out crispy. (

No, Theresa...I didn't know it either, until she posted this!!!

We have been making yogurt in our crockpot every weekend for years now thanks to your blog post about it! Absolutely amazing, cost effective, and delicious. Thank you so much!!

I always enjoy stopping by your site and have used many of your recipes. Now I'm excited to try your homemade cream of mushroom soup!

I had the Salsa Black Bean & Chicken soup recipe bookmarked, and my daughter made it for us last night! It's absolutely scrumptious. We made one adjustment, as someone in our house is very allergic to mushrooms sliced black olives were substituted. Loved it! And I can see this being in regular rotation.

What? How could "Mommy Crack" not have made the top of the list? I started making it a while back for parties & now it's a tradition.

The Brown Sugar Chicken has always gone over SO well when I've made it for company! The ingredients are bizarre, but turn out such a lovely dish. Can't be beat!

I recently made falafel for the first time the fried way and they fell apart! Next up: the slow cooker method. Thanks for reminding me of the recipe!

My favorite recipe is the Butternut Squash Soup. I've used all kinds of pumpkin and squash in it and it's always delicious. I make it about every two weeks in the winter and it's totally my No. 1 comfort food.
