Little Dipper Pizza Fondue Recipe

I love my Little Dipper and am always trying to come up with new ways to use it. 

This Pizza Fondue tastes just like  you think it should -- it's all your favorite flavors in one beautiful melty fondue!

Day 365, take two.

I was annoyed with the white bean soup with fennel and spinach I made for dinner, but had all the stuff in the house to make a pizza fondue.

So I did.

I used the Little Dipper because I puffy heart LOVE it, but you could use an oven-safe dish inside a regular crockpot to create a smaller cooking vessel.

Or you could increase the quantities.

The Ingredients.

  • 1 cup pasta sauce (my sauce had chunked mushrooms, it was perfect)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 10 pieces pepperoni, diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (I used a combo of mozzarella, cheddar, and swiss)

The Directions.

Count out 10 pieces of pepperoni. Then eat the rest of the package.

Put the pasta sauce into your Little Dipper, and plug it in. Add the Italian seasoning and diced pepperoni. 

Shove in the cup of shredded cheese. 

I promise it will fit. 

Cover and leave plugged in (there are no heat settings on a Little Dipper) for 45 min or so.

Stir well and serve with tortilla chips, bread sticks, or crustini.

I love my Little Dipper and am always trying to find new recipes! This pizza fondue recipe can be made in a larger crockpot or you can use the recipe here to make it perfectly in the Little Dipper slow cooker!

Homemade Crustini:
Use 6 slices or so of your favorite bread. We are gluten free, so I use GF bread.
Cut the bread into strips -- you'll get 3-4 strips per piece of bread.
Lightly brush olive oil on to the bread strips.
Sprinkle with kosher salt and pepper. 
Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 min, flipping once half-way through.

The Verdict.

This was great. We spread out a blanket in front of the TV and had a carpet picnic with the pizza fondue and watched Redbox dvds.

How come I didn't know about Redbox earlier?

    Well, that sounds so much better than the soup it is not even funny! I think I might bring this instead of the chili cheese dip I was planning on for New Year's eve. Thanks so much for your work on this blog this year. It has been a blessing. I had a 6.5qt oval and what I thought was a little dipper. I asked for a 6.5qt smartpot combo that came with a little dipper for Christmas. When I got it I realized that my 'lil dipper' was actually a 1 quart! I always wondered why mine held more than yours! Imagine my surprise when I noticed that it says 1 quart 'crockette' right on the front of it. I've only had it for several years. Shows you how observant I am! But, thanks to you and your blog I now use my crockpots a couple times a week instead of a couple times a month. I also got myself a 4 quart slow cooker for about $9 after sales and rebates so I have increased my crockpot count from 2 up to 5 in the past month! There is no stopping me now!!

  20. Wow, I really hope you keep blogging recipes in 2009. Even if they're not crockpot recipes, I'd be happy. Your recipes are usually so easy to do, and a great break from my normal routine. Since I'm not gluten-free, I tend to rely on a lot of the same old stuff (pasta... and more pasta), and your recipes always break me out of that rut.

    Will try this recipe out on my boyfriend, he loves pizza. I may have to skip the peperoni though.

    I must make this bread you used also. I've never heard of it before, but I'm getting a tour of Whole Foods from the marketing director next week to show me all of the gluten-free foods they carry. I will be keeping an eye out for this bread mix.

    Also, I LOVE those Hormel turkey pepperoni pillow packs. They are so yummy and you can eat like 17 slices for 80 calories. HEAVEN!!!

    I just found your site this week after getting my first crock pot for Christmas.

    Your pizza fondue and cranberry orange dip made me run out for a Little Dipper!

  30. Stephanie, NOT an airhead (especially not with your name! ;-0 ) I walked by the redbox machine for YEARS without noticing it. Largeish grocery stores have them, and they dispense dvds for $0.99. google redbox, then plug in your zipcode to find one near you.

    Katie, NO. no water. Put the dish in, then the ingredients in the dish. The dish and the crockpot need to heat up together.

    Oh my God this was amazing! I was trying to find a recipe for fish in your archives, but when I saw this I had to make it. I ran out and bought a Little Dipper and some pepperoni. My husband and I ate it with garlic breadsticks and I now have a giant food baby.

    Dear Stephanie,
    I just had to write to you to say thank you so much for your wonderful website. I've been in Crockpotty heaven since I subscribed to your daily recipes 2½ months ago.

    You're enthusiasm has inspired me to start using my own crockpot, which has sadly been relocated to the back of the bottom shelf of my cupboard for far too long.

    I guess it comes as no surprise that your daily recipes, should reach those of us at the bottom of the world, here in New Zealand, which leads me to wonder how many people in other countries around the world that have been CrockPotted by you! I am absolutely staggered that you have 3,500,000 bloggers to your site and that appears to be only the ones from the USA!

    I've been especially interested in your 'little dipper' as we do not have them here in New Zealand. However, just recently, I purchased on our online auction site [similar to ebay], a small crockpot which is just perfect for cooking for one! I've not seen these anywhere and think that it may have come from overseas. It holds about 3 - 4 cups and I love it!

    I have bookmarked your website and have and will do in the future, refer to it regularly.

    You have to be the only person I know and I suspect, the only person in the World!!, who has ever completed their New Year's Resolution and for that you deserve a Gold Medal of Olympic proportions!!

    I wish you and your family lots of rich blessings for 2009 and hope that you will share with us your New Year's Resolution for 2009! I can't wait... :-)

    On Christmas Eve, I wanted the house to smell all Christmasy, so I pulled out the Little Dipper, threw in some orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and various spices, and let the good times roll. The house smelled fantastic!

    Do you have any good scent ideas for the crockpot?

    I'm glad you like this pizza fondue recipe; I have a similar, even easier one: 2 cans pizza sauce, 1 small box Velveeta cheese. Melt and dip with foccacia bread. I like this recipe because it doesn't use sandwich meat which contain nitrates...

    I LOVE my little dipper too! It is awesome for melting chocolate and obviously perfect for keeping party dips warm. I've been raving about it to all my friends since we've been in entertaining mode over the holiday season and I've had many opportunities to pull it out. To say nothing of the hundred buckeyes I used it to dip in chocolate. ;) I love that it melts the chocolate perfect. You don't have to worry about steam burn on your arm from a double broiler or scalding the chocolate in the microwave and having to keep reheating it over and over as it gets too firm for dipping. Ahhh, I could never go back!

    I made this for my Bunko ladies last night...I left the kitchen for a few minutes, and when I came back, they were scraping the pot clean! I couldn't believe it!! It was delicious...I am glad I had one little cracker with the dip! I had put out roasted garlic melba toast to use as dippers...but I think some of my friends might have used their fingers!

    This is awesome. Pizza is the hardest thing for a kid to give up on a gluten-free diet... esp when everyone else around her can eat it. This is something we can all enjoy and not feel like we are missing out on pizza!! Thank you!

  64. Tripled this in my 2-quart slow cooker. It fit perfectly. I used 2 cups mozzarella and just under 1 cup freshly grated parmesan. It was a big hit at our Christmas party.

  66. I've made this recipe before and my suitemates LOVED it, I used smart deli brand pepperoni. But I was wondering if I can use italian sausage in replacement of the pepperoni, would you recommend that? It's the smart deli brand so it doesn't have to cook as long as real sausage.
