Flourless Brownie CrockPot Slow Cooker Recipe (5 Ingredients!)

When you use your slow cooker as a bain marie, you can make rich, delicate desserts that are moist and delicious.
Flourless cakes and brownies have the tendency to dry out in a conventional oven. That's just not possible in the slow cooker!

Flourless chocolate brownies -- a rich, dark chocolate dessert that you can make at home with only 5 ingredients in the slow cooker! Uses cocoa powder, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla. Recipe was showcased on Home & Family TV show by Stephanie O'Dea

I get to be on TV today!

(I was filmed yesterday). Adam and I flew into LA yesterday and spent the day at the Home & Family TV Show, which is on the Hallmark Channel.

The show films in Universal Studios, which is VERY BEYOND COOL. I'd never been there, and while we were shooting there were tourists driving by in trams!!

The show is in a house -- complete with all the rooms you'd imagine: family room, dining room, play room/craft room, kitchen, garage, backyard...

it was very cool!

I was there to make flourless brownies.

in the crockpot.

The Ingredients.

4 large eggs
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

The Directions.

Use a 6-quart slow cooker with a 1 1/2-quart inserted oven-safe baking dish inserted.

Add 1/2 to 1 cup of water to the slow cooker insert to create a bain marie, or water bath for the inserted dish.

Thoroughly blend together all of the ingredients until the batter is smooth (it will be quite thick). Pour the batter into a treated baking dish (it needs to fit completely in the cooker).

Cover and cook on high for up to 4 hours, but check after about 1.5 hours --- the timing depends on how thick the batter is in your particular baking dish and slow cooker.

Check with a knife or toothpick.

Serve with ice cream, berries, and whipped cream!

The Verdict.

This is such a rich and delectable dessert. Because it is SO LOW in sugar it is very dark. My kids thought it wasn't sweet enough. If you find that to be the case you can certainly increase the sugar quantity!

I loved my time on the Home & Family set. I was blown away by how caring and kind every one was -- it truly was as if you were in a house surrounded by family!

The entire crew was attentive and gracious and I loved every bit of it!

I want to go back!

For those of us who need or want to eat low carb, can the sugar be replaced with a sweetner that can be heated?

  7. Can't wait to try these as I just found out I have to go Gluten free NOW and I am a major foodie...so sad. Also, I am so glad I get to catch the rerun of you today on Home & Family I had a dr. Appointment yesterday and forgot to tape it. Thanks for the heads up

  8. Is it possible to make it in multiple small baking dishes instead of one, big 1.5qt dish? I don't have a single big dish that will fit in my crockpot but do have multiple smaller ones (ramekins and similar). What adjustments would be needed - shorten the cooking time and check for doneness sooner?

    ReplyDelete
  9. fantastic question, ocdrunner! YES. You can most certainly nestle oven-safe ramekins (or coffee mugs, even) into the slow cooker with water around the bases.
I think you're right that they might cook a bit faster -- but they might not because the batter will be thicker and not as spread out.

Just in case I'd check after 1 hour on high and see what's going on -- but since slow cooking is so forgiving 10-15 minutes here or there won't be a super big deal.

I hope this helps a bit!
