Honey Glazed Ham Slow Cooker Recipe

Happy Almost-Easter! Do you have a ham in the fridge you don't know what to do with? Throw it in the crockpot. It'll be delicious.

The Ingredients.
serves 6-8.
5-7 pound bone-in ham
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon gluten free Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground thyme

The Directions.

Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Unwrap ham, and discard flavor packet. Put ham into slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine vinegar, honey, butter, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and thyme. Pour mixture evenly over the ham. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, or until heated through. 

The Verdict.
Oh yum. Slow-cooked ham is so super easy and always comes out fantastic. The meat stays perfectly moist without needing to baste, and tastes wonderful. My family really likes this glaze--it's sweet but not over the top.

Now that I can eat pork again, I'm thinking of declaring every Wednesday a holiday just so I can eat ham.

maple ham from last year (this is really good, too! I'm having a hard time deciding which I like better. I should make both.)

and more crockpot holiday food.

This is a little off-topic, but I feel if you took out "ham" and replaced it with "______" you'd sum up this wonderful blog pretty well!

Can this be done with a boneless or bone-in ham? I never know what kind to buy. The recipe sounds really simple and good.

Actually you can buy an uncooked ham. I have to do that since I'm allergic to sulfur and nitrates - which are used in preservatives and some meat cures.
And thanks for this recipe. Going to do this instead of the Dr. Pepper ham I've done in the past.

I had never thought of making a ham in the slow cooker. When I saw this recipe...yeah! I had all the ingredients on hand and popped that ole ham right into the crockpot. IT WAS FABULOUS! Thanks a bunch.

I made this for Easter lunch and everyone loved it. I only ran into a couple of problems.

1. I bought a 10 lb ham which was not spiral cut (oops).
2. The ham didn't fit into my crockpot without some serious coaxing.

I solved the problem by slicing 2 inches off the bottom of the ham and placing the larger portion inside. Then I stuffed the "slice" into one of the open pockets on the side. I did add an extra tablespoon of brown sugar just for fun.

We ate leftovers for dinner. Then my husband finished off the rest of the leftovers at midnight while everyone else was alseep. Altogether a success!

Well now that everyone has had their ham...

what do you do with the leftovers? I'm always in the market for recipes to use up ham, because we usually buy 3 or 4 of them when they go on sale and put them in the freezer.

MOST of that gets cut up into small or medium sized cubes which area amazingly useful-throw them on pizza, on baked potatoes, and into all kinds of soup, not to mention breakfast "skillets" with hash browns and eggs.

HOWEVER-if anyone has other uses for ham leftovers (ham hash?) I'd love to hear it!

I will probbaly do a egg fritatta tonight with cheese, veggies and some diced cooked ham in it,(flourless as my daughter needs gluten free) what are other ideas?

I have been making hams in my crock pot for years as it is always super good! One thing we like in ours is pineapple chunks and orange marmalade. I didn't read through all the comments (my bad) so someone else might have said this also.

We did a ham in the crock pot this year. First time ever to buy a ham that had to be cooked 4 hours. Usually it was the heat and eat kind. I found a good deal and had my hubby cook it cuz I was gone the day before Easter to a meeting out of town. He did a good job! I think I'll keep him! I was perusing your site after looking at your cookbook on line. On my list for mother's day. I read Erin, $5 Dinner mom, blog. That's where I heard of your cookbook. Crockpot it great, have used one for years! Young married, family of 4, done to 2 back to 3....great for days I work (3 days) and other days! :0) Thanks!

So, I was making Easter dinner for whole family - including the in-laws - for the first time EVER. Came across this recipe and thought "Awesome! I can do the ham in the slowcooker and save the oven for the turkey!" - yes, we do both!

Traditionally, our families do the "brown sugar and mustard with pineapples" glaze. But I've been on a kick of trying new things lately, and decided to go with this one.

I hesitated slightly when I was mixing the sauce as the vinegar smell was a little over powering, and I didn't have ground thyme so I used dried thyme (the twigs, not the power).

I popped the ham in the slowcooker and poured the sauce over it. About half way through, I start to panic. I think it was the smell of the thyme cooking that got me. All I could think was "This is not the same traditional ham. I don't know if the family's going to like this! Maybe I've ruined Easter Dinner!"

Ok, I'll admit - a little over the top, but hey, I was cooking for the in-laws after all!

Well, I just had to report that this ham was WONDERFUL. The thyme put a lovely hint of flavor on the ham that I really enjoyed. Yes, it was different, but it was delicious! A definate keeper of a recipe!

Thanks Stephanie - this blog is such an inspiration to me. I'm a working mom of two kids (ages 4 and 2), and the slowcooker makes my life so much easier! And the verdict section is invaluable! Especially on a bad day - you really make me snicker!

I am getting a late start to Easter Dinner and was only able to find a hardwood smoked ham (half). Would this work for this kind of recipe? All I have ever done is baked ham, and there were no spiral sliced avaliable!

Thanks Stephanie! We had a whole family over last week and everyone devored it! My husband was pretty sad we didn't have any left overs. I have tried many recipes on this site and so far I have never been disappointed. I am a busy mother of a toddler, I have my own business and I don't particularly love cooking so your website is a life saver!
