Home Again

I'm home, safe and sound. Thank you so much for all of your well-wishes and for tuning in to show support; it means so much, and I truly appreciate every email, comment, and page view.
Thank you.

I had a ball, an absolute ball. But I'm also really glad to be home.

If you haven't been able to find the link with the video on
Good Morning America's Website, here it is.

The note up above is what my seven-year-old slipped into my coat pocket. I laughed so loud at the "Don't get lost" part.
I suck at directions, and get lost regularly.
I didn't wander New York solely because I knew if I ventured more than 20 feet from the doorman I'd get lost.
And even though when it was time to leave and the front of my hotel was SHOWN RIGHT TO ME and I could see it (about 1/2 block away), I got lost.

I wandered into a store and turned the wrong way when I came back out. oops. Want to totally freak out your husband? Casually mention you might be lost in New York City while on the phone with him.

Everyone was beyond nice----I was blown away by how genuine everyone seemed, and how thoughtful and considerate they were to me. When I met Diane, Robin, and Chris, they were real people who couldn't have possibly been nicer.

Be nice to Chris. Not only is he Capital H hot, he felt horrible for misspeaking my name, and apologized profusely. When I was driven to the airport, I spoke to his driver of two years, and he had nothing but nice words to say. He's evidently quite the family man and very dedicated to his children.

Patrick, who did my hair said I had great highlights and that I should keep my hairdresser. He also said that he would charge at least $400 for my hair. And that's when I almost fell from my chair.

I made Robin cry. My daughter's teacher is a cancer survivor and I shared that with Robin, and thanked her for being inspirational. She said, "No, the teacher is the inspiration---what a fantastic role model she is for all those children."
Then we both cried and she gave me a green napkin.

I came home to a clean house, 3 loads of folded
and put away laundry, and sleeping kids. It was a very good trip.

  2. I just watched the clip and was very impressed by how relaxed you were on national tv!!! I would have been puking or crying from nerves. I have been following your blog for quite some time now and had no idea so many people check this. I've tried many of your recipes and look forward to trying more of them. I'll definitely look for your cookbook. I love my crockpot! It's a lifesaver for me since I work full time outside the home and have a hungry family waiting for dinner every night.

I love looking through your recipes.I usually use my crockpot 1-2 times a week and this is the first place I look. Since getting a new crockpot for Christmas (we have a large family and outgrew my 5 qt.)my husband laughs at me for using both at the same time. It is a pleased laugh, however, and he definately likes having dinner ready when we walk in the door from church on Sunday.
You have a graet smile by the way:)

  5. You are so little and cute! I never imagined such a petite woman while I've been reading your blog! And, you look so different from your profile picture!

    Thank you!

Alright, I'll ask the obvious. Is everyone on GMA actually a giant or are you only four feet tall? Inquiring minds want to know.

(Ow, stop hitting me. You know I love you!)

  32. It was so fun to see you and hear your voice, after reading your blog for so long! You are different than I imagined...I guess because of your profile picture--the angle makes it look like you have really short, dark hair. :-)

I LOVE the note...how precious! And you came home to a clean house and laundry?? Fantastic!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You're amazing! How were so you so calm and collected on national TV? Way to go! My only complaint: they didn't give you enough time...

    ReplyDelete
  34. I commented on your other post, but glad to see you shared all the GMA scoop here. (That group does come off as some of the nicest, most sincerest of the folks on TV.) So glad it was a good experience for you. You really rocked! I loved that you mentioned the brown rice noodles and gluten intolerance, too. More awareness. Love that! The funny thing is that chances are you'll be even more remembered because Chris Cuomo messed up your name. LOL, but true. Anyway, again, very cool. Sensational job!

  41. What a wonderful blog entry! The note from your daughter made me laugh and nearly spit Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with Raspberry squares out of mouth and onto my husband's computer.
    I kept it in :)
I am once again requesting your advice on burned on food. In the crock pot. Since you save my butt and my crock pot last time, I thought I'd hit you up again.
I was trying to be super-wife and make a chicken and dumplings recipe that I got from a friend.
I mixed the veggies, soup, and chicken up in our 3 qt crock pot that is super fun, has the capacity to be placed in a travel case and taken away...
    and turned it on.
5 hours later, that mixture had grown.
And I hadn't even put the 2 cans of biscuit dough on it.

*This is where you start yelling and screaming "NO, don't do it!".*

Yep, I did it. I crammed 2 cans of Southern style biscuit dough on top of the nearly full crock pot mixture. And then jumped in the shower.
When I got back the crock pot, I had a disastrous mess.
The goo had leaked between the liner and the main base of the pot. I now have burned on goo on the metal portion of the crock pot (the part that houses all the electrical/heating components).
Is there ANY way to save my nice travel-capable crock pot?

And yes, I'm a blonde. And slightly stubborn when it comes to starting a project and proving that what I determined where the right guidelines (i.e. using the smaller crock pot) for the project would work.

  56. Okay, I saw the teaser to the show and then missed the segment because I had to shuttle everyone off to pre-k. But I feel like i know you just like I know Robin, Chris, Diane and Sam because I watch them every morning, and I read your blog every week. It was weird, like two of your friends who don't know each other meeting for the first time. Except I don't really know any of you. Anyway, congratulations! So I prayed some recording would be available somewhere and it was sooner than I though! I loved the clip. You really were relaxed and the blue top was so cute on you! You looked totally feminine next to the man who called you Katheryn :)! Great job! You inspire us all to cook meals for our family. We rarely eat out and save tons of money to give to those who are in desperate need! Your blog has helped me save even more! Be blessed! I loved your 7 yo's cute note! Timeless!

  72. I have an oval 6.5qt crockpot and the plastic handle on the lid came off when I was lifting the lid. Have you had this problem? I appears that the plastic has cracked, and there are no replacement lids available to purchase on Rival's website. I have had the pot just over a year of course, so the warranty wouldn't cover me. Of course the first 6+ months I rarely used the crockpot...then I found your blog.

  73. Hi Becca,

I have had that happen. Is the glass okay? Unscrew the remaining handle pieces, and get a drawer pull/knob from the hardware store. It will work just fine, and you can customize with a "fancy" drawer pull. Maybe a bunch of grapes or a high-heeled shoe...? :-)

  88. Hi Chelley!
We just had our dear friends from Melbourne over last night for the Oscars.
The fires are scary-----you and your family are in my thoughts, and I hope are okay.

Do you have Tabasco sauce? The vinegary tang of Tabasco is what makes buffalo wings. I'd add 1 tablespoon to the pasta sauce, then give it a taste. You want a bit of heat, and a noticeable tang. Although you will end up with less liquid because you aren't using a whole cup, your noodles will cook fine; I've made traditional lasagna with just pasta sauce numerous times in the crockpot.
